Saturday at Bawdsey Manor

The children slept well last night and ate a hearty breakfast to prepare for a wonderful day in the glorious sunshine!   Our activities have included zip wire, the giant swing, aeroball, coastal walk and raft building and the children have shown amazing enthusiasm, courage and determination in trying new skills.  They are all now very tired and tucked up in bed - another busy day tomorrow!

Do keep an eye on the photo gallery as we are trying to update it regularly.

Athletics Champions!

A HUGE well done to all the Y4/5/6 children who have competed at the Sporting Futures 2019 Athletics festival at Ridlins Stadium today.  They competed in a wide range of track and field events and there were 22 schools altogether in the competition.

The children did exceptionally weel - 4 individual medals, 3 relay medals, overall Y5/6 winners and OVERALL WINNERS! This is an incredible achievement and we are so unbelievably proud of them all, including Mr Jefferies and Mr Smith who have coached and trained the children so well.

Congratulations Team St Ipps!

Well done to the Y3/4 Cricket Team!

Yesterday, the Y3/4 Cricket team travelled to Ware to compete in the county cricket finals, representing our district. They played absolutely brilliantly – they won all of their heat matches, were the highest scoring team of the whole tournament but narrowly missed out on the county title in the final match. This places them as the 2nd best team across the whole of Hertfordshire – absolutely fantastic! We are so proud of the team; they have been training hard with Mr Smith and have shown fabulous team spirit and sportsmanship throughout. Well done!

Sports Apprentice of the Year 2018

On Tuesday evening, I attended the 2018 Hertfordshire Service to Sport Awards with Mr Smith who had been nominated and shortlisted for the award of ‘Apprentice of the Year’.

It was a very prestigious event that recognises and rewards the outstanding contribution of clubs, teams and individuals in all manner of sport and physical activity across the whole of Hertfordshire.

I am absolutely delighted to tell you that HE WON! We are all so proud of Mr Smith’s achievement; it rightly recognises his commitment to sport at St Ippolyts and the impact he has on the whole school.

Well done Mr Smith!

Stir Up Sunday 2018

In Collective Worship on Monday we talked about ‘Stir Up Sunday’ and the tradition of making Christmas Puddings on the last Sunday before the start of Advent. Lots of children were able to help out as we made our very own Christmas Pudding and every child in school took a turn to stir it. It is now ‘resting’ and will be steamed by Mrs Harrington Smith so that all the children can have a taste next week if they would like to. This is the same recipe we have followed for several years now and it is always very popular! .(It is vegetarian and nut-free.)

3 oz plain flour

3oz vegetable suet

4oz dark brown sugar;

½ tsp baking powder with ½ tsp mixed spice

4oz raisins

4oz sultanas

6oz currants

2oz mixed peel

2 medium eggs

Juice from a fresh lemon and orange

Did you know these Christmas Pudding traditions?

Stir-up Sunday is the Sunday before Advent, the term comes from the opening words of the collect for the day in the Book of Common Prayer of 1549:

Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people; that they, plenteously bringing forth

the fruit of good works, may of thee be plenteously rewarded; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

It is traditional for all the family to participate in stirring the pudding on Stir-up Sunday, whilst making a wish at the same time.

The pudding should only be stirred clockwise, from east to west, in honour of the Wise Men making the journey to see baby Jesus.

The Christmas Pudding is said to have 13 ingredients to represent Jesus and his 12 disciples

The old tradition of putting coins in the pudding is said to bring wealth, health, happiness to anyone who finds one on Christmas Day.
