Summer week 5

We have had a very Royal week in Class 2! As a class, we wrote a letter to the Queen which today has been posted to Buckingham Palace to tell the Queen all about our last history topic. We ended the week today with a Royal tea party with Class 1. We ate jam scones and finger sandwiches and played pin the veil on the bride. Watch out for some photos of our party on the website soon.

This week the children in year 2 have been working extremely hard on their quizzes, while the years 1’s have been equally working hard on creating, planning and writing their own story book.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy watching the Royal wedding.

Autumn 2, Week 6

We have had a very festive week in Class 2. We have all been really busy designing and making our Christmas hats, cards and calendars. In Maths, we have continued to learn all about 2D shapes and their properties. We have also completed an independent big write where we had to finish the end of the story about Santa and why he thought he had ruined Christmas.

Reminders:

-      The carol service takes place on Tuesday 12th December at 2:15pm.

-      The children have been provided with costumes at school ready for Tuesday’s carol service. Any additional pieces of clothing that the children may need will be found written in their monkey book.

-      Please ensure that the children learn their lines and the hymn words ready for Monday’s rehearsal.

-      On Friday, the children chose what food they would like to bring to the class party on Monday 18th December. You will get a slip to inform you of their choice on Monday.

-      PE kits will go home on Friday and any kit left un-named in the classroom will go to the lost property box next to the front office.

Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 2 Week 3

It was lovely to see so many of you this week during our family afternoon. I know the children really enjoyed it.

In English this week, we have been reading a new book called ‘That rabbit belongs to Emily Brown’ written by Cressida Cowell. During our lessons, we have used a range of different adjectives to describe Emily Brown and the different places Emily and Stanley explored. We finished the week by writing a postcard from one of the places that we would have liked to have explored with Emily and Stanley.

In maths, we have looked at the different ways and resources you can use to make a particular number. During the week, we have also been practising our addition skills. We learnt that you can write the two numbers you want to add together in any order. For example, 2+3=5 or 3+2=5.

Mini Olympics

On Wednesday morning, the children will be taking part in a sporting event. Please ensure that the children arrive to school promptly (coach leaves at 9am) in their Outdoor PE kits (blue joggers, white t-shirt, blue jumper and trainers). The children are to bring their non-school uniform to school in their PE bags, and then they can get changed when we get back to school at lunchtime.

Reminders:

  • Stapled into the children’s monkey book is their parent consultation time and day.
  • PE kits will be sent home on Tuesday ready for Wednesday morning.
  • Non-school uniform (Wednesday 22nd) – please refer to the newsletter to know what the children should bring in exchange for wearing their own clothes.
  • Thursday 23rd – Parents consultations

Have a great weekend.

Autumn 2, Week 1

This week in English, we have been learning about the four different sentence types. These are statements, questions, commands and exclamations.

In Maths, we have been recapping our number bonds to 10 and 20. We have also been using the resources around the classroom to help us to add different numbers together.

During the afternoons this week, we have learnt about the different weathers in each season during science; what an aerial and ground level view is in geography and created firework pictures using a range of mediums in art and computing.

Reminders:

· Please ensure all PE kits are in school all week with the correct clothing inside.

· A new home learning grid was sent out on Tuesday with all new activities based around our ‘explorers’ topic. An online copy is on the website.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week 7

In English this week, we have been using our Mr Men or Little Miss plans to create our own story. We thought carefully about what we wanted to happen in our story at the beginning, middle and end. We even illustrated our stories. At the end of the week, we went into Class 1 and shared our story with some of the children in there.

During our maths lessons, we have been looking carefully at our number bonds to 10. Number bonds or number pairs are pairs of numbers that make up a given number (10). For example 1 + 9 = 10.

Over the half term, I would be great if you could practise your number bonds to 10. You can write these down or your grown up at home can verbally test you like we do in class.

E.g. If I say 4 you say… 6

Well done to all of you for your fantastic home learning this half term. I look forward to see what you produce next half term!

Reminders:

  • A new home learning grid will be sent out after half term with different activities for the children to complete 6 of.
  • Reading evening – Thursday 2nd November at 6pm.

I hope you all have a lovely half term.
