Spring 2, Week 5

In English, we have been researching our favourite sea animal using different sources- Ipads and non-fiction books. We will use this information to create an informative poster about a sea animal.

In maths we recapped our money knowledge by using a range of coins to make different amounts. We have also been learning about 3D shapes. In pairs we used straws and plasticine to make a variety of 3D shapes and we also looked around the school to find different everyday 3D shapes.

This week we have also been on our Easter Journey. As a class we reflected upon the Easter events at the different stations which were located at the church and around the school grounds.

Reminders:

Thursday 4th April – Easter service (9.15am in the hall)

Friday 5th April – End of term (school finishes at 2pm)

Wednesday 24th April – Summer term begins

Have a lovely weekend.

Spring 2 Week 4

This week we have been working really hard being scientists during our 2 science days. On Wednesday we did lots of investigations to do with space, for example making and testing parachutes and looking at and creating the solar system. On Thursday we worked together in our class to find out what happens to skittles when you add warm water to them; which material would be best to use as an astro-nappy and which crisps were the healthiest out of Doritos, ready salted, Wotsits and squares.

Have a lovely weekend.

Spring 2 Week 1

This week we have started our new traditional tales topic in English. We have looked at the features you find in traditional tales and thought about what makes the characters good and bad.

In maths we have been recapping our number knowledge. We used dienes to show our numbers in tens and ones. We also practised writing our numbers in words and numbers and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In addition to all of this, we have looked at and located the 7 continents in geography, identified the animals which live in polar and ocean habitats in science, painted different flags in art and looked at the events in the Easter story in RE.

Reminders:

  • World book day on Thursday (7th) – Costume needed.
  • Spring Disco on Friday (8th, 5.30-7pm)

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Leake

Spring Week 6

We have had a great week in class 2!

In English, we continued using the book Traction Man is here written by Mini Grey. We used verbs to describe what Traction Man is doing on different pages and we created our own adventure for him to go on.

In maths this week, we have been learning how to tell o’clock and half past times. We created our own analogue clock and took them home to practise with. We have also learnt how to read and draw the hands on analogue clocks.

Today we finished our history topic about the Great Fire of London by having a guest in to tell us all about the Great Fire. We worked together as a class to practice our 17th century firefighting technique using our plastics buckets and re-enacted a lot of different scenes.

I hope you all have a lovely half term!

Spring Week 5

In English this week, we have been looking at the book Traction Man is here, written by Mini Grey. We used adjectives to describe Traction Man and what clothing he wears.

In maths, we have been learning how to find halves and quarters of shapes.

Over this week, we have also done a lot of work on wellbeing. As a class we have talked about how to look after ourselves and how we can stay safe. We had an exciting day on Thursday when we learnt about different fruits and vegetables and got to try them too!

Upcoming:

-      Open session on Monday (3.30-6.30pm).

-      On Friday (15th), we will be having a Great Fire of London morning to finish our history topic. Please could your child bring in a named plastic bucket for Friday in order for them to be a part of one of the activities.

Have a lovely weekend,
