Autumn 1, Week 7

We have had a fun week in Class 2 and it was lovely to meet many of you on our family day on Monday. I know that the children really enjoyed the afternoon and I hope you all did too!

In English, we have been planning and writing our own Mr Benn adventure stories. The children have had a range of great adventure ideas and I am looking forward to reading them when we finish them next week.

In maths, we have been learning our number bonds to 10. We have used a range of resources and visual representations to help us.

Reminders:

  • Open session – Wednesday 24th October - 3:30pm- 6:30pm
  • Shoe boxes- Please could we have any spare shoeboxes for our DT lesson on Wednesday.
  • Spellings- on this week’s spellings you will notice that some of the words start with a capital letter, this is an error and they should all be in lower case.

Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 1, Week 6

Class 2 have been working extremely hard this week. In English, we have been looking at some of the different adventures Mr. Benn has been on. We mainly focused on Mr. Benn’s diving adventure. From using his adventure, we could identify and retell the events in the beginning, middle and end of the story. In maths, we have been learning how to count in 2s and 5s. We used a range of different resources to help us with our learning, these included, 100 squares, number lines and the outdoor washing line!

Over the past 6 weeks, I have been encouraging independence with changing of books and taking them home at the end of the day. Regular reminders are given to the children about this routine throughout the day and I can see this is improving.

A number of items of clothing, especially jumpers, remain un-named. This makes it very difficult to return them to their rightful owners. Please can you make sure that all items of clothing are named. In class, we have discussed and been working on putting our jumpers straight into our bags when they are taken off to avoid loss of items. This is work in progress and I am sure this will develop over the upcoming weeks.

Reminders:

-      When bringing in a snack, please could this be put into a named container or bag to avoid any confusion.

-      Class 2 family afternoon is on Monday (15th) 1:15pm-3:00 pm.

-      Rearranged open session is on Wednesday 24th 3:30pm-6:30pm. This is a drop in session to have a look at your child’s amazing work they have produced in their books.

Have a lovely weekend.

Autumn 1, Week 4

This week in class 2 we have been working very hard.

In English, we have learnt about what we need to include in our sentences: capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In maths, we have looked at using our counting skills to find missing numbers on a 100 square and number line. We have also applied our number knowledge to challenging questions.

In addition to all of this, we have been learning our harvest festival song, retelling the creation story, identifying physical features of the Arctic and describing properties of materials.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Summer week 5

We have had a very Royal week in Class 2! As a class, we wrote a letter to the Queen which today has been posted to Buckingham Palace to tell the Queen all about our last history topic. We ended the week today with a Royal tea party with Class 1. We ate jam scones and finger sandwiches and played pin the veil on the bride. Watch out for some photos of our party on the website soon.

This week the children in year 2 have been working extremely hard on their quizzes, while the years 1’s have been equally working hard on creating, planning and writing their own story book.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy watching the Royal wedding.

Autumn 2, Week 6

We have had a very festive week in Class 2. We have all been really busy designing and making our Christmas hats, cards and calendars. In Maths, we have continued to learn all about 2D shapes and their properties. We have also completed an independent big write where we had to finish the end of the story about Santa and why he thought he had ruined Christmas.

Reminders:

-      The carol service takes place on Tuesday 12th December at 2:15pm.

-      The children have been provided with costumes at school ready for Tuesday’s carol service. Any additional pieces of clothing that the children may need will be found written in their monkey book.

-      Please ensure that the children learn their lines and the hymn words ready for Monday’s rehearsal.

-      On Friday, the children chose what food they would like to bring to the class party on Monday 18th December. You will get a slip to inform you of their choice on Monday.

-      PE kits will go home on Friday and any kit left un-named in the classroom will go to the lost property box next to the front office.

Have a lovely weekend.
