Spring 2 Week 6

We had a good last week of term in Class 3 and are now ready for the holidays :) !! We really enoyed preparing for the Easter service and spent some time in class going over the different parts of the Easter story. In maths we practised reading the time to the nearest quarter of an hour and in literacy we focused on using commas in our writing. In PSHE&C we talked about how we can be good friends to each other and the qualities that we look for in a friend.

As it is the Easter holidays, no new homework or spellings were sent home this week. Most of the children handed in their homework and spelling books on Monday, however, there are a few outstanding books. If your child has not handed in their books please ensure they hand them in to us on the first day back after Easter otherwise they will not get the new homework or spellings.

We wish you a very happy Easter and hope that you all have a good rest!

Spring 2 Week 5

Another week has flown by in Class 3. It was lovely to see some of you at parents evening on wednesday and we look forward to seeing more parents on monday afternoon for part 2!

The highlight of this week was the Easter journey which we all really enjoyed! It was amazing to see how much the children already knew about the different parts of the Easter story.

This week we spent lots of time solving money word problems. The children practised making amounts using different coins, working out change and solving real life two step word problems! We were so impressed to see how far the children have come in their maths since the beginning of the year!

In literacy we planned another explanation report, this time the children were able to choose their own topic! We are looking forward to writing up our reports in our Big Write books at the beginning of next week!

In Art we carried on with our paper weaving and in RE we discussed what Christians have learned from Jesus' teachings.

We are looking forward to the Easter service next week and to other Easter related activities. We can't believe it's only a week to go until the holidays!

Have a lovely weekend and we hope all the mums have an extra special Mothering Sunday!

Spring 2 Week 4

This week was science week and the children enjoyed two days of lots of different scientific investigations and activities! Amonst many other things, in Class 3 we investigated what would happen if we dropped a raisin into a glass of still and sparkling water (would it float or sink?) and we had lots of fun making blue slime using cornflour and water! The children loved seeing how the slime would turn from solid to liquid in just a matter of seconds.

This week we also worked on our subtraction skills in maths and used the number line method to help us find the difference! In Literacy we wrote an explanation text on 'How to plant a seed'.

In PE we did lots of running and counted our steps using a pedometer!

We hope you all have an enjoyable weekend!

Spring 2 Week 3

The children worked really hard on their assessments this week and we look forward to sharing your child's results with you at parents evening.

This week we also did some paper weaving as part of our DT topic!

In RE we read the story of Jesus healing the leper and thought about what we can learn from this story.

We really enjoyed dressing up for Red Nose Day. Thank you all for your generous donations!

As it was a busy week with assessments, we were unable to read with all of the children. We will make sure we catch up with our 1:1 readers next week!

Have a lovely weekend!

Spring 2 Week 2

Another busy week in Class 3 has flown by!!!
This week Class 3 have been enjoying learning some interesting facts about Christopher Columbus. Next week the children will be writing their own fact sheets on Christopher Columbus and his expeditions. If you wish, you could research some facts about Christopher Columbus at home. (This is only if you have time and would like to have a discussion with your child about what they already know and what they wish to find out.)
This week we also wrote an explanation report on the lifecycle of a frog and we made tally charts and pictograms using data we collected in class.

As it is assessment week next week, we will not be sending home new spellings or new homework on Tuesday.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
