Spring 1 Week 5

This week was all about well-being! We thought about ways of staying healthy, safe and happy! During our fruit workshop we got to try lots of different fruits such as figs, passion fruit, dragon fruit, star fruit and physalis. The children were very good about trying something new!

In Literacy we wrote a recount about the Good Samaritan and thought about what the moral of this story is. We also discussed our current school value 'Service' and thought about how we can link this back to our story.

In Maths we looked at the column method for subtraction and solved some tricky 2 step word problems using addition and subtraction!

Please note that due to lots of extra curricular activities for Arts Day and Wellbeing Week, we have not been able to read with all the children. Reading will be back to normal next week!

Have a lovely weekend and hopefully see lots of you on Monday night for open session!

Spring 1 Week 4

What a fantastic week have had!! The highlight this week were the two Art days! The children had so much fun and produced some amazing art work; don't forget to have a look at all the pictures on our website!

This week we also practised adding and taking away mentally using our knowledge of place value.

In Literacy we wrote a non-chronological report about St Ippolyts school.

A polite reminder to parents that children are expected to complete all 5 home learning tasks this half term. If your child has not yet completed them, there is still time to hand in work next week. Every child who completes all 5 tasks will receive a certificate. If your child is unsure of how many they still need to do, we will be happy to let them know.

Please remember that we are a nut free school. If your child brings in birthday treats which contain any traces of nuts, they will unfortunately not be allowed to hand these out; even if you have removed the nut flavoured chocolates (this includes boxes of mixed chocolates such as Celebrations, Roses etc). Thank you for your understanding.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the snow!!!

Spring 1 Week 3

Dear Parents,

Another week in Class 3 has flown by!

In Literacy this week we looked at the features of a Non-Chronological Report and planned our own report on St Ippolyts School. We are excited to write our report based on our plan next week!

In Maths we have been working hard on fractions. We practised finding 1/2, 1/4, 1/3 and 2/3 of numbers and solved word problems with fractions.

In Science the children have had fun planting cress seeds and watching them grow into plants. The children were able to confidently talk about what plants need to survive and could explain what germination means. They have been making predictions about what will happen to seeds which are planted in different environments (more or less water and sunlight).

Our Geography topic this term is Australia. Thank you to all those children who have brought in souvenirs from Australia to show the class. This week the children enjoyed looking at a variety of Aboriginal art work. They planned their designs for their own Aboriginal dot paintings which we will start painting the week after next. As part of their designs the children had to incorporate Aboriginal symbols. Why not ask your child if they can draw one of these symbols and explain to you what it means.

Have a lovely weekend!

Spring 1 Week 2

Hello!

We had a busy week in Class 3 writing our own version of the 'Gorilla' story based on the one written by Anthony Browne. The children came up with some brilliant ideas to make the story their own!

In maths we looked at place value and ordering numbers from smallest to greatest. We solved some tricky word problems using our kowledge of place value!

In RE we discussed the story of 'Peter's Denial' and thought about how Jesus and Peter might have felt. We thought about why we may have denied something or someone in the past and how that made us feel.

In PSHE&C we talked about our own feelings and emotions and how we know when someone is sad, upset, happy etc (facial expressions, body language, tone of voice etc).

Enjoy your weekend!!

Spring 1 Week 1

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! We hope you had a lovely Christmas and a nice rest! THANK YOU all so much for your generous Christmas gifts!

We had a great first week back in Class 3!

In Maths we have been learning all about 3D shapes. We learned about their features such as edges, vertices and faces. We also discussed where we can find 3D shapes around us!

In English we read the story 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne and planned our own story based on the one we read. We are looking forward to writing our own version of this story next week!

In RE we read the story of 'The Last Supper' and discussed how we can be servants to others, just like Jesus was a servant to his disciples.

in PE we played football and practised doing a forward roll!

Have a great weekend!
