Well done Class 4!

Wow! Well we've had a busy first week back in Class 4., and to top it all off we won the first Tidy Cup of the term! We've discussed our class charter, what we would like you achieve in class 4 and written excellent book reviews about our favourite books!
In maths we've been polishing our place value skills and using base 10 apparatus to represent this.
We have talked lots about the value this term which is Respect and we've also written about people who inspire us like Jesus inspired Christians! We have even been on a flight to Greece!!
It's been really lovely to get to know Class 4 a little bit more this week and I can't wait to see what this term, and year, has in store for us!

  • PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday
  • Homework starts on Tuesday and will need to be returned the following monday (please refer to the separate homework letter).
  • Please read every day and write it in your home school contact book, this needs to be signed by a parent/carer!
  • We are celebrating Roald Dahl on Wednesday afternoon, have a think about your favourite Roald Dahl book.

Class 4 Homework - 19th April

Maths Homework

For your homework this week, please practise telling the time! There are a few websites below that have games you can play to help you with this or you can ask some adults at home to test you. Make sure you are choosing the option that is best for you! Remember, telling the time is a life skill and it is very important you practise.

Spring 2, Week 1

We have had a very busy week in Class 4. We have focused a lot on fractions and decimals this week. Not only have we looked at adding and subtracting decimals, we have thought about ordering, comparing, finding equivalent fractions  and multiplying  and dividing by 10.  For our next step, we will be looking at percentages and how they link with decimals and fractions.

Yesterday we linked geography and science together and created the water cycle in a bowl! It was really interesting to see it and the children made fantastic observations. The children worked really hard to understand the water cycle and the difficult vocabulary. They have all produced lovely pieces of work that reflect their understanding.

As a class, the spelling results were far better this week then they have been in a while! Thank you for spending time and encouraging your child to learn their spellings.

Today, all children wrote in their home school contact books their homework for the weekend. The children have been asked to research the planet or star they were working on today. They can then present this how they like.

Have a great weekend

Class 4, Spring Week 4

In maths this week we have been doing short division and some of us having been doing long multiplication. We have decided we all need to practice our times tables and counting up in 6s,7,s and 9s.

In science, we have been learning about space. On Tuesday, Mrs Peddie cane in and did science with us. The first thing we did was get the fact cards and then shared our own fact cards with other people. Then we wrote all the facts down to make a poster.

In English this week we have been thinking of our own character and setting for our mystery and suspense story. It has been fun thinking up lots of different adjectives we can use.

Some of us Year 5’s played against William Ransom last night. The B team lost 4-0 but they tried their best and played well. The A team won 1-0, Jimmy scored a goal kick!

From the Class Four Bloggers – Max, Frank, Barley and Thomas.

Just a quick reminder that it is very important children learn their spellings each week. Scores from spelling tests are continuously getting lower and many children are saying they haven’t learnt them or not had time to. Please encourage your child to learn spellings as this will not only improve their writing but will help build their vocabulary knowledge.

It has also become apparent that many jumpers and fleeces are being left in the classroom and around school, many of which do not have names in. It is extremely hard for children to recognise their things and for adults to help them find lost items. Please try to label all school uniform, including PE kit.

Class 4, Spring Week 2

This week in English we have been writing instructions for how to make a robot. First, we drew our robots and then we annotated them. The next day we wrote an advert for our robot and explained what it does. Today we have written a full set of instructions, including and introduction, equipment list and conclusion.

We have been practicing our column method and mental maths skills for addition and subtraction this week. We really need to keep practicing counting, adding and subtracting in our heads.

Class 4 have worked really hard this week on their class assembly. Thank you to all those who came to see it, we hope you enjoyed it! Thank you also to helping your children learn their lines. They did a great job!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Walker
