Super Scientists/Singing Superstars !

The week started off a little early - with the trip to the Albert Hall. I’m so proud of the choir. Thank you for some lovely feedback. Miss Walker and I loved having the chance to perform with the children. It does not seem like it will have been almost a week ago now. It was brilliant to see Michael Rosen and James Mayhew. I know speaking with Mrs Peddie, a number of children love Michael Rosen’s poems. My particular favourite – Chocolate Cake.

Class 6 have been working away all week. In English we have been putting our skills to the test by writing a final narrative piece. Having studied lots of different genres and some of the technical skills required, we have planned a full story. I have been enjoying reading them.

In Maths we have covered a few lessons only, as our Science days have taken place. However we found quite a fair amount of maths within our science investigations. We were due to be covering measure and volume, so what better way than to do this, in a cross curricular manner.

Wednesday and Thursday were packed full of fun science. We were delighted to see Jules Howard return to our school, sharing with us his enthusiastic finds over the last year, with his top 5 fossil finds. The following day, Laura from Science Wizards kept us excited with a range of cool science experiments. The whole school were circulating around classrooms, taking part in a wide variety of scientific investigations. I have to say I have never seen so many happy faces in Class 6 when asked to create the best bubble mixture. Even with the rain, they loved being outdoors and testing their bubble creations.

As we are fast approaching to Easter, Class 6 had quite a calm and relaxing, reflective Friday by looking in-depth at what is so important about the resurrection. We took time to study the Gospel of Luke and the meaning behind the text within the Bible. We then compared ideas with ways in which Christians interpret these texts. We then watched a few short videos giving evidence for the resurrection. It is important to understand that we were not trying to prove whether Jesus was or was not resurrected, we were trying to understand why Christians believe this; being respectful to each other’s views.

I do hope everyone has a lovely weekend and you should have received your parent appointment slips from your child tonight.  If you get the chance do take a look at all the wonderful photos in the gallery on the school website. Look out for the predicted snow, which no doubt will come and go.
