Barton Hall Blog - Friday evening

We are here! After a long journey we arrived at Barton Hall just in time for dinner.  Everyone has unpacked, settled in and has eaten well. There is currently a LOT of fun and laughter going on at the sports and games evening so hopefully everyone will sleep soundly!

We have started a new page on the photo gallery called 'Barton Hall on the go'.  In there we will add a few photos as the weekend goes on so do keep checking back regularly.

Victorian birthday celebrations!

Our Victorian themed week was a great success; the children learned so much through their trips, workshops, and of course our whole school Victorian school day on Friday. I think some of the teachers enjoyed being strict Victorian teachers a little too much…(Mrs Stewart I am looking at you!) There are photos of the children in their Victorian lessons in the gallery.

Although sadly the party after school had to be held indoors due to the weather, it was still a wonderful afternoon and we were thrilled that so many parents and siblings came along to join in the fun. There were so many fabulous costumes and we were so grateful that so many of you got into the spirit and dressed up for the occasion; it really added to the theme so a HUGE thank you to you all for your efforts.

Thank you to everyone who provided cakes for the party and I would like to say an especially big thank you to Mrs Rule in the office for making the enormous school birthday cake – it looked and tasted fantastic.  The cake was baked using eggs from the St Ippolyts hens that we hatched here in 2016 and we are grateful to Mrs Carter for donating these to us.

You will have noticed that we had an official photographer doing the rounds at the party on Friday and I know she captured the occasion perfectly – some of these images are also in the gallery.  Sharon is a local, Hitchin based photographer and has taken pictures for us before and I am grateful that she was able to give up her time, free of charge, to help us.  Her website is www.sharoncooper.co.uk if you are interested.

The Comet newspaper also came along so hopefully we should get a mention some time soon.

Each family was given a copy of the book ‘A School Remembers’ on Friday. This was produced some years ago by the local history society, so although it does not go right up to modern day, it is a wonderful keepsake telling the history of St Ippolyts School.  I would like to thank our dinner lady, Mrs Furr and Parish Councillor, Pam Skeggs for sourcing these copies and donating them to be given out.  It is a lovely memento for the children and a generous gesture.

I know we created lots of extra cleaning work for Mrs Harrington Smith with bringing the event indoors on Friday so I would like to thank her very much for her understanding and her patience at us taking over her lovely clean kitchen!

Finally, our wonderful, wonderful team of staff; they worked SO hard last week to give the children such a special time in school.  Friday couldn’t have happened without their dedication and enthusiasm – for being inventive when we had to change our plans at the last minute, for hanging bunting, washing up, serving refreshments…the list goes on.  THANK YOU to each and every one of them – they are an amazing team and we are so very lucky to have them.

A busy week ahead!

Next week we have a lot going on in school so here is a run down to help you remember it all!

MONDAY: Class 3 trip to Hitchin British Schools.  Children to come in their Victorian costume but will also need to remember their uniform and swimming kits.

TUESDAY: Class 4 and 5 trip to Audley End, children to come in their Victorian costume and bring a packed lunch.  Please note we have a large number of oustanding permission slips for this trip and children will not be able to go if these are not received. (School Gateway is the easiest way to do this)

WEDNESDAY: PTA meeting in the hall at 9.15am. All welcome!

THURSDAY: PGL School Journey meeting for Y5/6 parents in the hall at 6pm

FRIDAY: Bags2School Collection ~ please leave bags on the village green by 9am

Whole school Victorians Day - all classes in costume.

Victorian school birthday party after school, celebrating our 170 years!

Cake donations for the party can be brought into school on the Friday morning             or dropped off during the day if that is easier.

Well done Year 6!

A huge well done to Year 6 who have spent this week doing their final assessments ('SATs').  They have worked incredibly hard all year and have put their absolute all into this week.  We know that every child has done their very, very best and they should feel very proud of themselves.

Thank you to Mrs Harrington-Smith who has provided a hearty breakfast each morning to make sure there were no rumbling tummies in the tests.  The children certainly ate VERY well and it was a lovely relaxed way to start each day with friends.  Thank you especially to Mrs Stewart and Mrs Blencowe who have worked so hard to make sure every child was ready and confident to tackle the tests - funnily enough Mrs Stewart is looking rather tired at the moment!

Today was the final test and Year 6 celebrated with an afternoon of fun - a 'Virtual Reality' workshop!  A big thank you to Revd Ginni who came along and brought cake, popcorn and drinks for the children to enjoy at their celebration.  We even persuaded Revd Ginni to have a go on the VR!

A message to Year 6 parents - your children have been AWESOME this week.  They have been focussed, determined and committed; we couldn't have asked for anything more from them.  They have tackled the whole week with immense maturity and we are so incredibly proud of each and every one of them.  I really hope they are enjoying an evening of relaxation!

There are a few pictures in the gallery of the children today.

Personal Support Plans

Following Parent Consultations at the end of the Easter term, you should have received an updated Personal Support Plan, if relevant for your child.  There are 2 copies - one is for your records; the other is for you to complete your Parent comments and to discuss with your child their comments about their learning and progress. Once signed, can you please ensure one copy is returned to school.   These termly documents are a really important link between home and school to ensure that we are aligned about the best strategies to support your child's needs so we really value their return.

If there is anything that you do not understand or wish to discuss further before you return the PSP, then please let me know on: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I am happy to help in whatever way I can.

Many thanks

Mrs Nichols
