Various blogs from St Ippolyts C.E. Primary School.

Wow! What a term St.Ippolyts has had as our sporting success continues to grow!

Back to January we first event of 2018 with the Year 2 cricket team taking part in the first ever competitive event for KS1. Congratulations to the team as the managed to return victorious. A day later this piled on the pressure for the year 3 & 4 cricket team who also managed to return with Gold and progressed through to the county final. The team travelled to Hatfield for the county round, and picking up where they left off, were able to win every game up to the final, including achieving the highest score of the tournament. Unluckily in the final we came out second best in a competition which 430 schools entered!

Later on that month following our trampoline regional success, we achieved second place at the zonal round, progressing through to the National trampoline final in Belfast, also in March. 4 of our girls travelled to Northern Ireland for this competition and with an amazing performance they placed 3rd in the country!

In February, both our Boys and Girls football teams played their semi-finals of the WIX cup. Our girls played fantastically but were unlucky to lose 2-1 in their game and just got edged out of the cup. Our boys managed to progress through to the final. After progressing through the tournament, our boys football team found themselves in the Wix Cup Final, although the boys were strong to come back from behind, they were beaten by the weather and a good opposition to take second in the competition, which ended up being enough to progress us into the County quarter final round of the tournament in Watford. Needing to win both games to progress to the semi’s, after an unbelievable fight and team spirit the boys pulled through to win, putting us top 4 in the county!

On Saturday the 3rd of February in St Albans, Mr Smith took a cross country team to compete in the County competition, finishing in the top half of all attending schools and showing promise for a summer of athletics.

Also in February we had our first indoor athletics experience of the year held at Barnwell School in Stevenage and the team performed admirably. Considering that some of the events were new to a number of our children, it was a good opportunity to practice some skills for later sporting years.

Our netball team played their first rally in early March and did fantastically returning unbeaten with a second place trophy. This event was held at Hitchin Girls School. The team played 5 games and scored 13 goals overall! Winning 4 and drawing 1!

The Year 4 team had their first experience of school football in March with a friendly rally, doing really well to win 3 of the 6 matches they played, showing great promise for the years to come.

These Year 4’s then teamed up with the Year 5 boys in one of our end of season rally’s, giving us a good chance to look forward to next year, the team performed really well and made it all the way through to the final without losing a game, they came up against Ickleford and despite playing a brilliant game, were unable to break through, eventually losing on penalties.

This was followed by our Year 6 team in their end of season rally, a good chance to warm up before the county round took place, after being put into a tough group the boys managed to finish 2nd in the group and narrowly missed out on a chance to progress to the semi-finals.

Have a Happy Easter and we look forward to more sporting success in the future.

Christmas sports blog

It has been a very successful term in sport at St.Ipps! We have beaten our record for the most amount of sporting events entered in this particular term .Entering new competitions and allowing many children to have opportunities representing our school in a variety of different sports. Throughout all PE and sport at school this term the attitude and behaviour from the children has to be commended. As it is often noted by many, we would like to say how honoured we are as a school.

I would to thank all parents that have given lifts to and from the events. We appreciate you giving up your time as we wouldn’t be able to take part without transport.

In the football this term both girls and boys have managed to maintain such a superb attitude and performance throughout all their fixtures and training so far. The participation and commitment from both football clubs has been great and would like all of you to join back in January. Congratulations to the boys A team who made it to two cup finals already this season. Unfortunately, being edged in both, but still managing to bring back some silverware. However being one of only three schools in the district to reach both semi-finals in the WIX cup it gives our teams something to look forward to for next term.

I would like to give Mr Smith a mention for completing his first term. What an asset he has been to the school so far allowing us to further all clubs and PE lessons in school.

Congratulations to our Trampoline team who are u’11 intermediate regional champions after their recent competition in Hatfield!

Reminder that all classes will have an outdoor lesson next term so please has tracksuits and sensible footwear ready for January J

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and hopefully Father Christmas will be on his way J

End of Half term

Good morning everyone

We have completed our first half term of the year! It has been a very sporty few weeks for St.Ipps with football rally’s, sporting futures on tour, cross country, rugby, table tennis and lots more to look forward to for when we come back .

Your children have been a joy to take to these sporting events as ever. We are always credited on our sportsmanship and positive attitude and as a school we are very proud that they have represented us in such a brilliant way.

Would like to say a big thank you for any parents who have given up their spare time to offer lifts to and from events as without you we would struggle to make these opportunities realistic .

As you are aware we have a new sports apprentice! Mr Smith, who has been with us two weeks now and is already showing how much of an asset he will be to the school, We are very lucky to have him as we will be able to offer more with him on board .

Please can all parents ensure that after half term every child has a full PE kit in school as it is weather depending on where the lessons are taught and we need to be prepared for all circumstances.

Hope everyone has a well-rested half term and will look forward to seeing everyone after the break.

Two rallies coming up next week as the district ESFA football rallies begin. Held both at Wilshere Dacre our girls on Wednesday and our boys on Friday.

A greater number of PE lessons are held outside in this term so it really is important if every child in school can please have a tracksuit as it is compulsory to have full kit for all types of weather J
